Aetomylaeus nichofii was originally described as Raja nichofii by Bloch & Schneider in 1801. It belongs to the family Myliobatidae and subfamily Myliobatinae. It is commonly known as Banded eagle ray and is known in Australia as Banded eagle ray, in Japan as Aosuji-tobi-ei, in India as Nieuhof's eagle ray, in Sri Lanka as Tuppa kollee. more common names It is found in Brackish and Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific.
