Apogon angustatus was originally described as Amia angustatus by Smith & Radcliffe in 1911. It belongs to the family Apogonidae and subfamily Apogoninae. It is commonly known as Striped cardinalfish. It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Caroline and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Taiwan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga.
