Atherion elymus was originally described as Atherion elymus by Jordan & Starks in 1901. It belongs to the family Atherionidae. It is commonly known as Bearded silverside but has many other common names such as in Australia as Pickleface hardyhead , in Japan as Mugi-iwashi, in Papua New Guinea as Bearded hardyhead, in Christmas Island (Australia.) as Prickleface silverside, in France as Poisson d'argent. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Eastern Indian Ocean (Christmas Island) and Western Pacific: Andaman Sea east to Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia and Loyalty Islands.

Habitat Notes   Loose aggregations inhabit tidepools and rocky shorelines and reef margins. Eggs are large.
Depth Range   From 0 to 3 meters.
