Bajacalifornia megalops was originally described as Cyclothone megalops by Lütken in 1898. It belongs to the family Alepocephalidae. It is commonly known as Bigeye smooth-head but has many other common names such as in Australia as Bigeye slickhead , in Japan as Ukeguchi-iwashi, in South Africa as Bigeye smooth-head, in Denmark as Storøjet glathovedfisk, in Iceland as Slétthaus. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Circumglobal, except Polar waters.
