Habitat Marine.        
Water Salt water
Habitat Notes Oceanic, mesopelagic or bathypelagic species (Ref. 6601). Most adults have been taken in hauls to depths considerably in excess of 500 m; most larvae in hauls to depths between 300 to 600 m (Ref. 10755). Adults prey on other midwater fishes (Ref. 6691). Synchronous hermaphrodites.
