Carcharhinus amboinensis was originally described as Carcharias (Prionodon) amboinensis by Müller & Henle in 1839. It belongs to the family Carcharhinidae. It is commonly known as Pigeye shark / Java shark but has many other common names such as Pigeye shark in Australia, Pigeye shark in Papua New Guinea, Javahaai in South Africa, Marracho baleta in Mozambique, Requin balestrine in France. more common names It is found in Brackish and Salt water and its distribution is Circumglobal in tropical and subtropical seas (including Madagascar, Mascarenes), but except Eastern Pacific.
