Channomuraena vittata was originally described as Ichthyophis vittata by Richardson in 1845. It belongs to the family Muraenidae and subfamily Uropterygiinae. It is commonly known as Broadbanded moray but has many other common names such as in USA (contiguous states) as broadbanded moray, in Christmas Island (Australia.) as Chinese moray, in Cuba as Morena rara, in France as Murène anneau, in Guam as Long-jawed moray. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific and western and eastern Atlantic.
