Chelmon rostratus was originally described as Chaetodon rostratus by Linnaeus in 1758. It belongs to the family Chaetodontidae. It is commonly known as Copperband butterflyfish but has many other common names such as Beaked coralfish in Australia, Banded longsnout butterflyfish in USA (contiguous states), Hashinagachochô-uo in Japan, Beaked coralfish in Papua New Guinea, Boray-boray in Philippines, Paru-parung dagat in Philippines. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific: East Africa and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, south to northern Great Barrier Reef (Queensland, Australia), north to Ryukyu Islands and Japan.
