Found in exposed seaward reefs. Sometimes inhabits clear lagoons or channels. Occurs in small to large aggregations on the upper edge of the slope over live coral or rubble. Uncommon (Ref. 9710).
Depth Range
From 2 to 37 meters.
Distribution
Western and central Pacific: New Caledonia, Rotuma, Tonga and Samoa east to Oeno (Pitcairn Group), north to Wake Atoll and Hawaiian Islands, south to Austral Islands and to Pitcairn Islands.
