Habitat freshwater, brackish.        
Water Fresh and Brackish water
Habitat Notes Inhabits gravel and rubble riffles of medium to large rivers and rocky shores of lakes. Occasionally enters estuaries. Young up to 35 days are planktonic (Ref. 1998). Feeds mostly at night and mostly on aquatic insects and benthic invertebrates. May feed on eggs and fry of @Oncorhynchus gorbuscha@ (Ref. 1998). Considered a forage fish for some salmonids (Ref. 1998).
