Couesius plumbeus was originally described as Gobio plumbeus by Agassiz in 1850. It belongs to the family Leuciscidae and subfamily Plagopterinae. It is commonly known as Lake chub but has many other common names such as lake chub in USA (contiguous states), Kwa'ak in British Columbia, Plumbeus minnow in Canada, Méné de lac in Quebec, Can.. more common names It is found in Fresh water.
