Dussumieria elopsoides was originally described as Dussumieria elopsoides by Bleeker in 1849. It belongs to the family Clupeidae and subfamily Dussumieriinae. It is commonly known as Slender rainbow sardine but has many other common names such as in Australia as Slender sardine , in Japan as Gin-iwashi, in Papua New Guinea as Sharp-nosed sprat, in Philippines as Kanasi, in Mozambique as Sardinha, in Mozambique as Sardinya. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: Somalia east to Solomon Islands, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia; Mediterranean Sea (Red Sea immigrant).
