Habitat bathydemersal        
Water Salt water
Habitat Notes A schooling species (Ref. 9563). The young occur near the surface, often with schools of clupeids. Adults are found near the bottom. Feeds mainly on larger zooplankton. An excellent food fish; marketed fresh or frozen.
Depth Range From 100 to 500 meters.
