Habitat Notes   Also mesopelagic, depths range from 25-1,500 m, 100-200 m and 500-800 m during the day and 25-600 m and 1,250-1,500 m at night. Feeds on crustaceans and small fishes. Dioecious, males becoming ripe at about 110 mm SL, females at about 200 mm SL. Spawning period from spring to summer. Photophores develop in fishes over 6-22 mm SL (Ref. 4769).
Depth Range   From 25 to 3385 meters.
Distribution   Circumglobal in warm seas (including Mediterranean Sea, Hawaiian Islands).
