Heniochus acuminatus was originally described as Chaetodon acuminatus by Linnaeus in 1758. It belongs to the family Chaetodontidae. It is commonly known as Pennant coralfish but has many other common names such as in Australia as Longfin bannerfish, in USA (contiguous states) as Wimple fish, in Japan as Hatatatedai, in Papua New Guinea as Pennant bannerfish, in Philippines as Boray-boray, in Philippines as Paro-paro. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf), Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, and Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, Tonga and Austral Islands.
