Habitat Notes
Phil Heemstra March 2003 writes "The name Hexanchus nakamurai Teng, 1962 is wrongly used a valid name for the species Hexanchus vitulus. I just had a look at our library copy of Teng's unpublished Ph.D. thesis. It is clearly an unpublished university thesis. Our copy was clearly photocopied from an original copy of the thesis in the library of SC shen (probably Teng's supervisor). This would be an example of ICZN Article 9.7 'copies obtained on demand of an unpublished work [Art. 8], even if previously deposited in a library or other archive.' as a manuscript that does not constitute a published work.
The original was written with what looks like a typewriter. It was not issued for the purpose of providing a public and permanent scientific record.
And the citation of Teng's name by Chen (1963) in synonymy of Hexanthus griseus does not make it available, because Teng's name was not used before 1961 as an available name. "
