It is found in Fresh, Brackish and Salt water and its distribution is Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Mariana Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia, Tonga, Society Islands and Rapa; introduced in Hawaiian Islands.
