Myripristis violacea was originally described as Myripristis violacea by Bleeker in 1851. It belongs to the family Holocentridae and subfamily Myripristinae. It is commonly known as Lattice soldierfish but has many other common names such as in Australia as Lattice soldierfish, in Papua New Guinea as Small-eyed squirrelfish, in Philippines as Baga-baga, in South Africa as Lattice soldier, in Fiji as Corocoro. more common names It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific: East Africa to Line Islands, Marquesas and Tuamotu islands, Ryukyu Islands south to Australia.
