Name History   • Synonym of Cheilodipterus caninus  Smith 1949 -- (Dor 1984:117 [ref. 29757]). • Synonym of Cheilodipterus lineatus  (Forsskål 1775) -- (Gon 1993:27 [ref. 21133] [but Forsskål's name is preoccupied, arabicus  should have been used as the valid name], Gon & Randall 2003:31 [ref. 26750]). • Valid as Cheilodipterus arabicus  (Gmelin 1789) -- (Randall 1995:162 [ref. 22896], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S106 [ref. 27377], Fricke 2008:30 [ref. 30182], Mabuchi et al. 2014:198 [ref. 33426]).
