Petroscirtes elongatus was originally described as Petroscirtes elongatus by Peters in 1855. It belongs to the family Blenniidae and subfamily Blenniinae. It is found in Brackish and Salt water and its distribution is Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius (Mascarenes), Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Fiji, south to northern Australia, north to Japan; invasive in Hawaii and Guam.
