Scarus altipinnis was originally described as Pseudoscarus altipinnis by Steindachner in 1879. It belongs to the family Scaridae and subfamily Scarinae. It is commonly known as Filament-finned parrotfish but has many other common names such as Minifin parrotfish in Australia, Highfinned parrotfish in Papua New Guinea, Mulmol in Philippines, Filament-finned parrotfish in Guam, Te inai in Kiribati. more common names It is found in Salt water.
