Scarus vetula was originally described as Scarus vetula by Bloch & Schneider in 1801. It belongs to the family Scaridae. Habitat reef-associated        
Water Salt water
Habitat Notes Inhabits coral reefs and adjacent habitats. Feeds on algae scraped from rocks or dead coral. Sleeps in a mucus cocoon (Ref. 9710).
Depth Range From 3 to 25 meters.
