Habitat Marine.        
Water Salt water
Habitat Notes Found near rocky reefs in shallow water and in open water over deep banks. Lives both off and on bottom, near surface to 366 m depth. Forms schools. Young are important prey species for other fishes, marine mammals and birds.
Depth Range From 0 to 366 meters.
