Sparisoma chrysopterum was originally described as Scarus chrysopterum by Bloch & Schneider in 1801. It belongs to the family Scaridae and subfamily Sparisomatinae. It is commonly known as Redtail parrotfish but has many other common names such as redtail parrotfish in USA (contiguous states), Munaten-budai in Japan, Redtail parrotfish in Bahamas, Blue black-finned chub in Barbados, Loro colirrojo in Cuba, Vieja colorada in Cuba. more common names It is found in Salt water.
