Stichaeopsis epallax was originally described as Ernogrammus epallax by Jordan & Snyder in 1902. It belongs to the family Stichaeidae. It is commonly known as Ame-gaji. It is found in Salt water and its distribution is Western North Pacific: southern Kuril Islands and Okhotsk Sea to Toyama Pref., central Honshu, and Peter the Great Bay.
