Habitat benthopelagic        
Water Salt water
Habitat Notes Found over the continental shelves. Generally occus in small schools. The young are often found associated with pelagic medusae. Feeds on small fishes and zooplankton, also medusae (Ref. 6561).
Depth Range From 10 to 70 meters.
   
Distribution Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic: Bay of Biscay to South Africa.
