Canthigaster amboinensis was originally described as Psilonotus amboinensis by Bleeker in 1864. It belongs to the family Tetraodontidae. It is commonly known as Spider-eye puffer but has many other common names such as Ambon toby in Australia, Ambon toby in Papua New Guinea, Spotted toby in South Africa, Sharpnose pufferfish in Galapagos Islands, Spider-eye puffer in Hawaii (USA), Ambon toby in Hawaii (USA). more common names It is found in Salt water.

Habitat Marine.

Habitat Notes Spotted toby.
(Bleeker, 1865)
Attains 15 cm. Indo-Pacific and tropical eastern Pacific; in our area east to Durban. Usually found in surge zone down to 9 m. Feeds primarily on coralline red algae and to a lesser extent on corals and benthic inverterbrates. Similar to C. natalensis found in South Africa.
Depth Range From 2 to 15 meters.
