When this page opens, it only displays species with Available Names. (This is the Default setting) and is the reason why you will see that less than 100 000 records are displayed instead of the more than 102 000 which is expected.
If you want to see both the Available and Non-Available names just delete the text "True" in the "isAvailable" Filter Box and press "Enter".
If you want to see only Non-Available Names enter "False" into the "isAvailable" Filter Box and press "Enter".
To return to only showing Available Names enter "True" into the "isAvailable" Filter Box and press "Enter". To find the number of described species, the "isAvailable" filter must be set to "True" and the "Original Name" filter must be activated.
To find the number of valid species names, the "isAvailable" filter must be set to "True" and the "Valid" filter must be activated.
Clicking on a column heading will sort that column.
The empty white text box at the top of a column allows you to type in Filter Criteria for that column. The default Criteria of the filter boxes is "Begins with" except for "Authorship" where the Criteria is "Contains"
Clicking on the small key icon on the left hand side of the text box allows you to change the criteria.
Valid Taxa are displayed in blue
Clicking on the "Key" Icon at the top of a column allows you to change the conditions governing the Filter.
At a glance, the 4 "Ball" icons on the left hand side convey a large amount of information. Hover your mouse over each of them and read the tool tip to see what information each ball is portraying and what action will be taken if you click on the icon .
This Icon indicates that the taxon has pictures. Clicking on the Icon displays all the pictures belonging to this record.
This Icon indicates that the taxon name is Valid. Clicking on the Icon selects the record.
This Icon indicates that the taxon name is an Original Name. Clicking on the Icon selects the record.
This Icon indicates that the taxon name is a Linked Name. (It is linked to an Original Name) Clicking on the Icon will take the user to the Original Name Record.Clicking on any of the 4 small circular icons will Filter the records.
Clicking on will display only records where pictures are available. Clicking on will display only the Valid records. (Useful for obtaining the number of Valid records). Clicking on will display all the Original names. Clicking on will display all the records that are Linked to Original names.
Filter Icons when clicked on, show that they are activated as shown below. Records with Pictures are listed. Valid records are listed. Original Names are listed. Linked Names are listed.
There are many different combinations that can be used. Some examples are shown below.
Valid records with Pictures are listed. Original Names that are currently Valid which have Pictures are listed. Linked Names that are currently Valid which have Pictures are listed. Clicking on will remove any active Icon filters and display all records.
The Icon filters can work on their own or can be combined with some restrictions. The Green Icon and Orange Icons can never work together. They are incompatible, The Green is for Original Names and the Orange is for Linked Names.
Clicking on the Green filter clears the Orange filter if it is active and vice versa.
The Red filter, (Pictures) and the Blue filter, (Valid Names) can be used on their own or together. They can also be used together with either the Green or the Orange filters.
Play with these filters, you will be surprised at the information you can extract.
Combining the Icon Filters with the Column Filters and Page Filters enables you to create extremely powerful filters to extract the data you require.
Selecting and Clicking on a Species record will open a new page giving you many "Interform Navigation" options.
In the example below, the user selected and clicked on the record Cepahlopholis miniata.
If you accidentally Click on a Species record you can cancel this selection by clicking on the blue up arrow icon.
