Attains 9 cm. Overall white with five horizontal stripes on side which vary in colour from brassy to dark brown, and a dark spot at base of middle caudal rays; fin rays light red. This species belongs to the dark-striped species complex, which normally have five horizontal stripes and normally a caudal spot. The species distinction is not clear and A. angustatus can easily be confused with A. taeniophorus and A. cookii. See section 35 of 'Coral Reef Fishes' by Collins for identification details. Clear seaward reefs, from reef flat to 65 metres. Feeds on benthic invertebrates. Indo-West and South Pacific, Red Sea south to Natal in South Africa.
Depth Range From 6 to 65 meters.
